JOHN DAY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
MINISTRY THAT MATTERS
Ministry in the day-to-day life of The John Day United Methodist Church is as diverse as the many people that we serve in our community. The church shares a neighborhood with family dwellings, businesses, civic organizations and the Kam Wah Chung State Historical
Museum & Visitor Center.
MINISTRY THAT MATTERS
LOVING OUR NEIGHBORS
From the shoppers at Ye Olde Thrift Shop, the weekly TOPS group meeting, patrons of the Helping Hands Food Pantry, or the community children learning to play the ukelele, drums, and care of God’s creation, these are some of the ways we follow Jesus’ example of loving our neighbors.
"If you want something done in this community, you come see the Methodists."

THE NEXT GENERATION
SERVANTHOOD
The church is served by assigned non-compensated lay persons. Numerous other members serve in lay leadership roles such as planning and leading worship services, recording and compiling worship videos and communication outreach. Every worshipping member of this congregation serves. The missional discipleship of this church continues to be strong and how
we are identified in the community.
EQUITY
Elimination of Racism and our church’s role in doing our part will be this church’s biggest challenge regarding the MILE initiative. Plans for a sermon series as well as hosting a community wide training on Racial Equity are a few ideas that this church will examine and develop throughout each year. Engaging the other churches in the local ministerial association to partner in the Racial Equity training will be pursued.
